Wine For the Weekend of 8/30/19
Sauvignon Blanc Is the Wine For the Weekend of 8/30/19
I am recommending Sauvignon Blanc for the wine for the weekend of 8/30/19, because it’s the best wine to pair with salads. Summer is almost over as well. It can go with a wide variety of salads from classic grilled chicken salad to Asian noodle salad. I highly recommend that you make a dressing with citrus fruit, instead of vinegar. The acid in vinegar will clash with the acid in the wine. This will NOT taste good. Simply squeeze your choice of fresh oranges, lemons, grapefruits or limes with olive oil and seasonings.
Which Countries Have The Best Sauvignon Blanc?
Since this post is just for a wine for the weekend recommendation, I will be brief. France and New Zealand make the best versions. Try them both, because they taste different. French sauvignon blanc is mostly grown in various places in the Loire valley. Many are named for the area from which they are made. Poully-Fume and Sancere are fine examples, but are expensive ranging from $25 on up. However, there are many good and inexpensive versions that can be around $10 or so. Europe is getting smart, because they are beginning to the English words on the bottles.
Sauvignon blanc has a classic finish of lemon zest which is why it’s good for salads. A friend of mine from France taught me a secret. After a big dinner with lots of garlic involved, drink some because it helps cleanse the palate and freshen your breath. That’s a nice tidbit! New Zealand versions have this as well, but they do taste different from French versions. So try both! Plus they are reasonably priced from $10-$20 in most cases. Below you will see some examples.
