Wine for the Weekend of 11/15/19
New York’s Finger Lakes Region is the Wine for the Weekend of 11/15/19
It is my pleasure to introduce to you a little known wine region in New York State as the wine for the weekend of 11/15/19. It is called the Finger Lakes. If you look at the map above, you see how it got its name. This is an emerging wine region that is making some stellar wines. Recently, I attended a wine tasting devoted to this region. Their focus is mostly on riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet franc wines. And, they are delicious! The Red Tail Ridge Riesling Pet Nat is the first natural wine I have ever had. The majority of wines are filtered. Natural wines are not. Therefore, they are a bit cloudy. It was outstanding and my favorite white in the tasting. Also, the rieslings and red wines were all excellent as well. See the tasting list below.
Finger Lakes Wines
Hopefully, you will give these wines a try next time you go wine shopping. Most good wine shops carry them. Also, buy any winery they carry. And, try any varietal as well. The reason they have success is because they have all the desired things to make great wine. The Finger Lakes region has lakes that were cut from glaciers which expose various types of soils. Also, the cold climate is similar to other countries that grow these grapes well such as Germany and France. See some examples below that are all delicious. Also, see how the natural wine is cloudy. Look for more natural wines hitting the liquor stores soon.
