Various Uses And Reasons To Punt A Wine Bottle
Many Possible Reasons To Punt A Wine Bottle
– Various Uses And Reasons To Punt A Wine Bottle. Many great restaurants train their staff to pour wine into your glass using the punt. They place their thumb in the punt and cradle the underside with fingers. It allows them to pour wine without you having to raise your glass, which is a huge wine etiquette no-no! Also, it allows the server to have a longer reach. This is the best reason to punt a wine bottle!
– The punt helps the bottle stand upright. It provides more stability so it’s not knocked over easily.
– The punt is an indication that the wine was well made. There is some controversy over this for today’s wines. Most good or better wines do have a punt.
– The punt can make the wine bottle appear larger than those without. It can fool the consumer into thinking there’s more wine inside.
– The punt helps sediment collect and stay in the bottle so it’s not poured in your glass.
– The punt creates more surface area. Theoretically, it means you can chill your bottle faster in an ice bucket. Note that your ice bucket should be about half ice and half water.
– Punts can make it easier to clean a wine bottle for re-use.
– Punts help the bottle maintain pressure which is essential to sparkling wines.
– Punts can help you organize your wine bottles.
