Terrible Wines And Excellent Alternatives
Barefoot and their new Fruitscato are the terrible wines. Unfortunately, as Americans we are gullible when it comes to marketing strategies. That is why there are terrible wines and excellent alternatives. Barefoot came out with Barefoot Bubbly and we bought it like it was a top Cabernet from Napa. Why did we? Because, we buy silly names and labels. Their wines are cheap and taste like it. Now, they are denigrating the beautiful moscato grape with flavored versions and another silly name, Fruitscato. More cheap wine for us to buy and make them rich. Please do NOT support this. If you want fruit in your moscato, then put some real fruit in it! This is genius marketing that will surely make the owners even richer. Europeans would never drink this junk. Because, they pair their wines with food. They have generations that learn about wine and what food it goes with. And, Americans do not. I have links about label buying and my wine shopping list cheat sheet below to help you learn and buy.
What We Can Do About These Terrible Wines?
Instead of buying Barefoot, buy good Moscato from Italy. If you like some bubbles, buy Moscato d’Asti. If not, there are many places in Italy to get Moscato wine that has no bubbles (still wine). Also, educate yourself. Subscribe to Wine Enthusiast magazine. It is easy to read each month. It has articles on wine, food pairings, recipes, travel and more! Go to local wineries, wine tastings and wine festivals. If you can afford it, go on vacation. And, go to Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and Portugal first. There, you will learn so much about wine and food in Europe. Then, go to California where it is all about drinking wine, and not so much about pairing with food. That is because America is still a young nation compared to the others. And, wine is not part of our culture like it is in Europe. You will see the difference and be shocked. See the link to a really good article about Europeans and wine below.
