Some Amazing French Wine Trivia You’ll Love To Know
What has the same name of a grape, a French wine, and a French wine region?
Answer
Some Amazing French Wine Trivia You’ll Love To Know. Beaujolais is a region in France. Also, it is a wine from the same region. And, although it is not the same grape used in making Beaujolais wines, there is a grape called Gamay Beaujolais! It is a different grape than plain Gamay which is used in making Beaujolais wines. Gamay Beaujolais was brought to the U.S. from France. But as it turned out, it was not the Gamay grape. It is a Pinot Noir clone.

Beaujolais is not a grape.
Hi. Yes, I’m aware. The grape is Gamay and also referred to as Gamay Beaujolais. Sorry you never heard of that. It makes me feel great every time I get the chance to teach someone something about wine no matter how small. Thanks Frank

Hi again. Yes I’m aware of the bottle found in Germany. I thought I worded the trivia question differently than what was there. I fixed the question. Lmk if there’s anything else you find as I always appreciate the help. Regards, Frank

The grape is NOT called Gamay Beaujolais in France. That was a name used by California wineries to designate a wine made by a remote clone of Pinot Noir back in the 60s/70s/80s. The name is NOT USED anymore, as wineries have to use the name Gamay, and only use the authentic Gamay clone from Beaujolais.
