Fabulous Zinfandel Is America’s Best Wine By Far. Why? It is the best barbecue wine in the world! Nothing compares. You can buy a basic zinfandel for $10 and will probably just say California on the label. This type is good for those looking for a lighter version. However, they come in all sorts of versions from many different areas in California boasting to have the best. It’s the only grape in the world that has it’s own festival every year called ZAP. My favorites are from Ravenswood (Lodi) and Alexander Valley Vineyards.
Types of Zinfandel
Some are full bodied, fruity, jammy, powerful, or even harsh in a good way. Others can take on more than one characteristic. I am referring to RED Zinfandel, otherwise known as just Zinfandel. Zinfandel producers have artistic license to make crazy, silly and funny names and labels. Otherwise, I do not condone wineries using labels to sell wine. If you only like sweet wines, you can drink White Zinfandel instead. However, beware Ravenswood’s motto of “No Wimpy Wines.” LOL.
Aromas and Tastes Of Zinfandel
Zinfandel can display aromas and flavors of Fig, Raspberry, Blackberry, Raisin, Cherry, Plum, Cranberry Jam, Black Pepper, Cacao, Cinnamon, Oak, Tobacco and Mushroom. It is lighter than Cabernet or Merlot, but it’s high alcohol content and tannins make it taste heavier. Beware the alcohol content may be higher than listed on the label, usually 14.5%. Zinfandels are known for having the highest content of alcohol of all everyday wines
Zinfandel Pairings
Break out the barbecue. Paired with Zinfandel, you will have the best hamburger you ever ate. Also, it goes with grilled sausage, chicken, hot dogs and ribs. Smother everything in your favorite barbecue sauce. Zinfandel is what you have been missing at your barbecues.
