Cupcake and Layer Cake Wines Are Terrible
Cupcake and Layer Cake Wines Are Terrible
The reason that Cupcake and Layer Cake wines are terrible is because they are selling labels, instead of wine. Read my other post about gimmicks and silly labels. It discusses wineries selling labels as a marketing ploy. If your wine tastes like a cupcake or a chocolate layer cake, then something is terribly wrong with the wine. My mantra is “You can’t drink the label!” From now on, I use the stamp below as a beware sign.
Wine Tasting
I tasted Cupcake Red Velvet recently. It was horrible. What does red velvet have to do with wine anyway? Cupcake is betting that you will think that it sounds cool and buy it. Their cabernet sauvignon scored only 86 points recently. And, that was probably generous. That is the sign of a bad wine. Most of their wines are less than $10. If that’s all you can afford, there are many wines that are nice for that price. Please use my wine shopping cheat sheet. There is a link at the end of this post. Most people print it out and take it to the store!
Invasion of the Wine Snatchers
Cupcake and Layer Cake are making so much money selling labels that they are able to buy small wineries in other countries. Now, they are selling wines made from France, Italy, Australia, etc. The irony is that some of these wines are good. That is because the wines are made by the people from each country. As long as they stay out of the winemaker’s way, they will be good. However, I boycott them as well. I cannot support them because they represent what is wrong about wine in the U.S.
